Important Community Meeting Oct 18

Please attend to support our community.

Jennifer Gates would like to invite residents of the Melshire neighborhood to an upcoming community meeting on Thursday, October 18. The meeting will be held from 6-7:30 pm at the Walnut Hill Recreation Center, 10011 Midway Rd, Dallas, TX 75229.

The purpose of this meeting will be two-fold:

  1. We will provide an update, and discuss possible zoning changes and next steps for the ‘library land’, located at 5639 Forest Lane.
  2. To review the E.D. Walker Middle School zoning case (Z178-221), as it also impacts your neighborhood. More information listed below

You can view the Walker Case Report by clicking here.

E.D. Walker Middle School currently enrolls students 6th-8th grades, with a current enrollment of 758 students. DISD proposes to amend Planned Development District No. 734 for the expansion of E.D. Walker Middle School to serve 1,100 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. DISD proposes building additional classrooms and a gymnasium, as well as making various site and infrastructure upgrades.

– 660 students in K-5 with a school time of 7:45-2:55 p.m. (35 classrooms)
– 440 students in 6-8 with a school time of 8:25-3:35 p.m. (15 classrooms)

We will have City staff present to answer questions about either project. We appreciate hearing feedback from D13 constituents, and I hope you’ll be able to join me on the 18th.

Thanks,
Jennifer
