Community Plans Dog Park – Preston Forest

Proposed Dog Park and how to get involved

The Preston Forest community has a big dream – to build a privately funded dog park in the neighborhood.

A campaign to fund the $300,000 project launched today.

Local resident Meredith Powell, who is spearheading fundraising events with Pam Silvestri, said there currently isn’t a dog park in her neighborhood, and there has been city-owned vacant land on Forest Lane for some time.

Powell and Silvestri are working with the city of Dallas, the Dallas Parks Foundation, Friends of the Northaven Trail, the Trust for Public Land, and the Better Block Foundation to transform the strip of land between Quincy Lane and Nuestra Drive into a green space.

If funded, two parks – one for large dogs and one for small – would be built along Forest Lane between Quincy Lane and Nuestra Drive.

  1. I have been a resident of Melshire Estates for over 50 years and I am strongly opposed to the dog park!
I live on the corner of Lindenshire and Quincy; traffic is heavy going north and south on both Quincy and Nuestra from Forest Lane through the neighborhood right now. Forest Lane’s east/west traffic is awful. The extra traffic that the dog park would bring into our completely residential neighborhood would be onerous. Why mess up such a lovely neighborhood as Melshire Estates with additional noise, lights, smells and traffic that this proposed park will inevitably bring? Those people supporting and possibly funding this proposed dog park may not live in our neighborhood and be aware of these additional burdens on us.

Sadly I am out of town or I would be at the meeting to lend my voice in opposition. Please give consideration to my comments. Thank you.
